Why couples add a boat

From the water you see Lake Como the way it looks on postcards: villas stepping down to the shore, cypresses and mountains behind. A private wooden boat also takes you to places like Nesso and the Balbianello loggia in minutes.

  • One hour on the boat is usually enough for the photos; the rest of the session happens on land.
  • Morning water is calm and the villages are quiet; late afternoon brings warm light.
  • The boat is booked separately. We suggest the route and the timing so the light is right.

Planning your day on the lake

Getting there and the boat

  • Como is about an hour from Milan by train, so a lake photoshoot fits into a day trip.
  • Tell us where you are staying, and we pick the village and the villa that are easiest to reach.
  • The boat is booked separately. We plan the route and the timing with you, so you only step on board.
  • One hour covers one area: Como and Villa Olmo, Tremezzo, or a boat past the villas. With two hours we add a second place, for example a boat to Balbianello and the gardens of Tremezzo.

What to wear on Lake Como

  • Light, solid colours stand out against the water and the green hills.
  • Flowing dresses and skirts look beautiful on a boat and on the terraces.
  • The villages have stepped lanes: walk in comfortable shoes and keep the pretty pair in your bag.
  • Bring a light layer for the boat.
  • Skip big logos, neon colours and busy small prints.

Lake Como photoshoot questions, answered

Before you book

One hour costs €400 with 50–60 edited photos, two hours €800 with 80–120, and three hours €1,200 with 120–150. Boat rental is booked separately.

Como is under an hour by train from Milano Centrale or Cadorna. Varenna is about an hour from Milano Centrale, and ferries connect Varenna, Bellagio, Menaggio and Tremezzo.

For a first visit: Varenna for pastel houses and lake views, Bellagio for stepped lanes early in the morning, Tremezzo for gardens and stairways, a boat to Villa del Balbianello and Nesso, or Como and Villa Olmo if you are coming for the day from Milan. Tell us where you are staying and we’ll suggest the closest option.

On the day

Morning for calm water and quiet villages, late afternoon for warm golden light. In summer, avoid the harsh midday sun.

The loggia looks best from a boat, which needs no permission. Shoots inside the villa gardens need the villa’s approval and a visit ticket, so we plan them with you in advance.

Not at all, many sessions happen on land. A boat adds views of the villas from the water and quick access to Nesso and Balbianello.

We watch the forecast with you and plan a covered option. Mist over the mountains can look beautiful, and if it pours we look for another time within your dates.

After the shoot
