How to prepare for your photoshoot in Milan

Light, places, outfits and posing: what our clients ask most, answered in eight pages.

Start here

Most people who book us have never had a photoshoot

That is normal, and it is exactly why we wrote this. You do not need to know how to pose or which corner of Milan looks best at nine in the morning. That is our job. This guide covers the few things that help on your side, so the hour goes to photos, not to decisions.

How we work

Tell us when you’re in Milan, and we reply within a day. The day before, you get a plan in your chat: meeting point, route, the hour with the best light and what to wear. We speak English, Italiano, Русский and Українська.

When to shoot

The light decides more than the camera

Early morning

Our favourite. Piazza del Duomo is still quiet, the light is soft and the Galleria is almost empty. Worth the early alarm.

Late afternoon

Warm, golden light on the marble. More people around, so we work with angles and side streets.

Midday

Hard sun on the square. We move into the Galleria and the arcades, where the light is even.

Rain

Not a reason to cancel. The Galleria and the arcades keep you dry, and wet marble reflects beautifully.

Tip

Tell us your days in Milan, not a time. We suggest the exact hour for your day when we plan the route.

When to shoot3

Where to shoot

Milan in one hour, or in three

Piazza del Duomo
Mini
30 min

One spot, usually the Duomo. Right for a short stop or little ones.

Essential
1 hour

The Duomo and the Galleria, or one area you choose. Our most booked session.

Extended
2 hours

Add Brera’s courtyards or Castello Sforzesco, and time for a second look.

Premium
3 hours

Three areas, or your hotel plus the city: the full story of your trip.

Going to Lake Como?

Como is an hour from Milan by train. We photograph the lakefront, Tremezzo and Villa del Balbianello from a boat. The boat is booked separately; we plan the route and the timing with you.

What to wear

Colours that work against the marble

Milan’s stone is cream and grey, so solid colours and clean lines stand out. These always photograph well:

White
Cream
Black
Deep red
Caramel
Soft blue

Yes

  • Solid colours and classic cuts
  • Flowing dresses and skirts: movement looks great in photos
  • Couples: coordinate, don’t match
  • A second look if you book two hours or more
  • Comfortable shoes for walking, the pretty pair in your bag

Better not

  • Big logos and slogans
  • Neon colours and busy small prints
  • Brand-new shoes you haven’t walked in

Doing it yourself?

  • Keep makeup a touch stronger than everyday: the camera softens it
  • Matte skin photographs better than shine; bring blotting paper
  • Hair: a little texture holds better in the wind than a fresh blow-dry
  • Nails and hands show in close-ups, especially with a ring
Photoshoot with a gown

One hour, one gown and 50–60 edited photos from €400. Two or three gowns with longer sessions.

How to pose when you don’t know how

You bring yourselves. We bring the prompts.

Nobody is asked to “just be natural”. We tell you where to stand, where to look and what to do with your hands. By the second spot most people forget the camera. A few of the prompts we use:

Walk and talk

Walk towards us slowly and talk about anything. The movement looks relaxed in every frame.

Look at each other

Not at the camera. The best photos happen a second after you stop posing.

Busy hands

Hold a coat, a bag, a coffee or each other. Empty hands are what make people feel stiff.

Laugh first

We will make you laugh on purpose. The photo right after the laugh is usually the keeper.

Forehead touch

Close your eyes and lean in. It works for couples and for a parent with a child.

Stand still for the Duomo

One calm, still frame with the cathedral behind you: the photo your family will ask for.

★★★★★

“Neither of us knows how to pose, but she guided us throughout the entire shoot and made everything feel so natural and effortless.”

Families

Plan around naps and snacks. Short sessions work best with little ones.

Proposals

Keep it secret, agree a signal with us, and we stay hidden until you kneel.

Solo

We carry your bag between shots, so you can focus on the moment.

On the day, and after

A short checklist for the morning

  • Check the plan we sent the day before: meeting point and time

  • Your edited gallery arrives within one week, in a private online gallery
  • A short behind-the-scenes video of your photoshoot comes with it, as our gift
  • In a hurry? Express delivery in 24 to 48 hours is €100
