The Devil Wears Prada 2 Filming Locations in Milan and Lake Como
Table of Contents
The Devil Wears Prada 2 was filmed in New York and in Italy. Its Milan Fashion Week chapter was shot in Milan from 6 to 18 October 2025: in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, on Piazza del Duomo, at the Palazzo Parigi hotel, in the courtyard of the Palazzo di Brera, in the fashion district around Via Montenapoleone, at Palazzo Clerici and at Villa Arconati just outside the city. Benji’s lake house is Villa Balbiano on Lake Como.
Below is what was filmed at each place, what you will find there today and when to go. We shoot sessions at the Duomo and in the Galleria early in the morning, so the timing tips come from working there, not from the film.
Key takeaways
- The Milan scenes were filmed in October 2025; in the story they happen during Milan Fashion Week.
- The Galleria, Piazza del Duomo, the Brera courtyard and Via Montenapoleone are free to walk into.
- The cast stayed at Palazzo Parigi, and its lobby, Caffè Parigi and exterior are in the film. The hotel-room scenes were shot in New York.
- The dinner under The Last Supper was filmed on a set, not in the real refectory.
- Villa Balbiano on Lake Como is private: you see it from a boat, as the film does.
Where Was The Devil Wears Prada 2 Filmed?
Filming began in New York on 30 June 2025 and wrapped on 20 October. The Runway offices are sets at Kaufman Astoria Studios in Queens, Manhattan carries most of the story, and an airport scene was shot at Newark. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are back, joined by Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu and Kenneth Branagh.
Then the story moves to Milan for Fashion Week. Streep and Tucci filmed at the real Dolce & Gabbana show on 27 September, and the main Milan shoot ran from 6 to 18 October. Lake Como plays the setting of Benji’s villa. This is the half of the film you can walk through yourself, so the rest of this guide stays in Milan and on the lake. If you like film locations, our guide to famous movie scenes shot in Milan covers older films too.
1. Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
The glass-roofed arcade next to the Duomo is the most fitting location in the film: Prada opened its first shop here in 1913, and the brand still has its store under the same roof. On screen it is all polished marble, shop windows and the iron-and-glass dome; in real life it is a public street, open at all hours and free to walk through.
Stand under the central dome and look down: the mosaic bull of Turin is set into the floor, and the custom is to spin round on your heel on it for luck, so there is often a small queue. Walk out of the north end and you are on Piazza della Scala, with the opera house on one side and the statue of Leonardo da Vinci in the middle.
Tip: come before nine. Early in the morning the Galleria is almost empty, and you can shoot the full symmetry of the cross from under the dome. We meet our clients at Camparino, the bar at the Galleria entrance on Piazza del Duomo.

2. Piazza del Duomo
Andy’s dash across Piazza del Duomo is shot in broad daylight, with the square as busy as it is on any normal day. The square was also the first choice for Lady Gaga’s scene, until the production moved it to Brera to keep her appearance secret.
In the morning the same square looks like a different place. Stand slightly to the left of the centre, towards the Galleria, and the whole facade rises behind you without the side buildings cutting into the frame.
Tip: with a ticket you can take your own photos on the cathedral terraces, but staff stop professional shoots up there. For a high view of the facade we use the big window of the Museo del Novecento, where we photographed this proposal above the square.

3. Palazzo Parigi Hotel
Palazzo Parigi Hotel & Grand Spa was the cast and crew’s home in Milan for several weeks, and its lobby, Caffè Parigi and exterior appear in the film. Stanley Tucci and Justin Theroux reportedly had martinis there between scenes.
The hotel rooms you see in the Milan part were not filmed here: those interiors were shot at the Woolworth mansion in New York. So the bedroom is not what to look for; the lobby and the café are.
Tip: the hotel is a short walk from both Brera and Via Montenapoleone, so it fits between them on the walk below.
4. The Brera Courtyard
Runway’s fashion show was staged in the courtyard of the Palazzo di Brera, the building shared by the Accademia di Belle Arti and the Pinacoteca di Brera: two floors of arcades with Canova’s bronze Napoleon in the middle. Lady Gaga plays a version of herself with a history with Miranda, and her scene was moved here from Piazza del Duomo so that word of it would not spread.
On a normal day the courtyard is open and calm. Around it, the lanes of Brera, Via Fiori Chiari and Via Madonnina, are the prettiest walk in the centre, with ivy on the walls and café tables on the cobbles. Palazzo Clerici, another of the film’s locations, is a few minutes away towards La Scala.
Tip: go in the morning, before the shops on the lanes open. The Pinacoteca has its own hours and tickets, so check its site if you want to see the paintings too.
5. Via Montenapoleone and the Fashion District
The Quadrilatero della Moda, the grid of streets around Via Montenapoleone and Via della Spiga, is where the film goes window shopping. At Il Salumaio di Montenapoleone, Andy finds Emily having lunch with Donatella Versace, who filmed her cameo in October.
Tip: the windows look best from across the street in the morning, before the shops open and the pavements fill.

6. Santa Maria delle Grazie
Miranda’s dinner under The Last Supper is set in the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie, but it was not filmed there. The production built the room on a set at three-quarters scale, with a hand-painted copy of Leonardo’s mural made by a team of craftsmen led by the head of set design at a Roman opera house.
The real mural is in the refectory next to the church. Visits are short and timed, and tickets are sold on the official Cenacolo Vinciano site, so book well ahead.
Tip: plan this one apart from the walk below. It is west of the centre, and your time slot sets the schedule.
7. Villa Arconati
Villa Arconati, in Castellazzo di Bollate in the Groane park northwest of Milan, was kept quiet until the film came out. Its Corte Nobile with the granite colonnade, the grand staircase and the frescoed Sala di Fetonte appear on screen, in scenes with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci and Simone Ashley.
Tip: you need a car or a taxi, and the villa opens to visitors only on certain days, so check the Villa Arconati site before you go.
8. Villa Balbiano on Lake Como
Benji’s villa, where Emily and Benji (Justin Theroux) arrive by boat, is Villa Balbiano in Ossuccio, on the western shore of Lake Como. Production designer Jess Gonchor chose it after a long boat tour of the lake, partly so that viewers would see the house from the water. It already had a film past: House of Gucci was shot there.
Villa Balbiano is a private estate, so there is no visit. The way to see it is the way the film shows it: from a boat. Do not confuse it with Villa del Balbianello a little further along the shore, which opens to visitors and needs a paid permit for photoshoots in its gardens; more in our Villa del Balbianello guide.
Tip: take the boat in the morning, before the lake gets busy. We also shoot sessions on wooden boats on Lake Como, like this boat proposal.

A Devil Wears Prada Walk Through Milan
Six of the Milan locations are within about two kilometres of each other. In this order:
- Piazza del Duomo, first thing in the morning.
- The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, next door, and out of its north end to Piazza della Scala.
- Via Montenapoleone and the fashion district, along Via Manzoni.
- Palazzo Parigi, for a coffee in the lobby café.
- Brera, for the courtyard of the Palazzo di Brera and the lanes around it.
- Palazzo Clerici, on the way back towards La Scala.
At an easy pace with stops, that is a morning. Santa Maria delle Grazie needs its own time slot, Villa Arconati half a day by car, and Lake Como a full day: trains from Milan run to Como and Varenna, and boats go along the shore. Capturing Memories in Milan
The film shows Milan at its most dressed-up. If you would like your own version of it, in a gown on an empty Piazza del Duomo or among the Galleria windows, that is what our personal photoshoots and couple photoshoots are about, and you can borrow a gown for the morning from our dress rental.
